Goal Getter

It is a new year and a fresh start! I love this time where everything feels invigorating, and not because it is below freezing outside but because there’s a sense of excitement and anticipation of what’s to come.

One takeaway from the previous year that profoundly changed my way of living is planning for success. I will never be one of those planners who has every seconded scheduled. That simple is not me. I like to leave room for spontaneity and last-minute adventures. However, it was a game changer the moment I began organizing my thoughts and goals into comprehensible to do lists.

There is something about placing my ideas on paper that helps begin the process that seemed overwhelming in my head. For added organization, I like to write out what I am capable of completing today, and what needs to get done in the long run. Therefore, when I spotted this pad of paper from Target already organized into two pretty sections, it was one of those soul-rejoicing moments as if this planner was made for me! I knew this was something I needed for the year to come.

I also picked up a bright pink and gold folder that will help keep my business ideas and goals all in one place. I love that there is a clipboard in front for what I am currently working on while the inside has a folder and extra paper for more room to jot notes. The best part is both tools are so affordable under $5 a piece.

These are just a few tools I use to keep my goals organized. I also love dry erase boards and pin boards to place ideas and clips of inspiration. Post-its, day planners, and calendars are must haves. Again there are so many affordable options, from $5-$12. Making investing in your dreams much more manageable.

Merry Christmas!

This has been a magical year! I am grateful for the past 12 months and all the experience I’ve been gifted. With this year wrapping up, I am taking a moment to really enjoy loved ones during the holidays. I will be back in 2016 with even more exciting adventures, socially awesome brands, outfit tips, and personal memos. I always love having quiet time at the end of the year to unwind, reflect and set a list of what I would like to accomplish in the year ahead. I frequently tell my friends who do the same, to imagine really, really big plans! Set goals so high you have no clue how it will happen, but believe that they will. You will surprise yourself on how many of them you will actually achieve. If you want, feel free to comment below on your proud moments of this year or what you would like to see in the year to come. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

You have no idea how excited I am to review this product!  It is nearly impossible to get your hands on Cocoa Brown 1 hour tan mousse because it is flying off the selves at Ricky’s NYC. Probably because Kylie Jenner was spotted on Instagram with the products, but most likely because it is an awesome self-tanner for the winter months to come.

So what makes Cocoa Brown 1 hour tan mousse better than the rest?

Customized Holiday Skirt By eShakti

I love this time of year where everyone dresses up for holiday parties and events. Seeing metallics weaved through dresses and sweaters are my favorite. This season, I am dressing up with the help of eShakti. eShakti is an amazing online shop doing incredible things in this world. Not only do they support real women by providing sizes 0 to 36W, but they strive to leave a small production footprint by producing only what’s ordered. Meaning everything purchase is truly made for you! This made my heart skip a beat.

Flipping through eShakti online catalog, I fell in love with three perfect holiday options. The Grace Dress – appropriate and fun for any festive party, the Shawl Collared Plaid Shirt Dress – retro and spunky, and then I found the Cotton Poplin Skirt. Immediately, I knew that was the one for me.

The full A-line skirt cinches at the waist for a classic touch. During the customizing process, I ordered the skirt below the knee and gave them my exact height to make it perfect. I opted to keep the pockets, but you can remove them for free. When I received my skirt, it fit like a glove. I was so happy and excited.

To create the ideal holiday outfit, I paired the skirt with a navy blue sleeveless turtleneck from LOFT. Yes, I am supporting the return of the turtleneck after nearly a decade of banning it from my wardrobe. I threw on a faux fur peacoat from Buffalo (similar here and here) and black pointed heels from Vince Camuto. Even still, the real focal point of the look was my navy blue striped skirt from eShakti. I received bountiful compliments and felt like a doll. The best news is this skirt is easy to transition into warmer weather, making it a piece I can wear year round.

Dress For Success Campaign

As a female entrepreneur, I know first-hand the power of looking your best. Most people assume I wear sweats to work each day as a writer. While I could, I choose not to for many reasons. One, I feel better, more confident, and invincible when I am dressed nicely. My writing is dramatically stronger as a result.

Secondly, I tend to work outside of my home. I never know who I will run into, and who needs a writer. Just this past week, I went to a function and the couple sitting next to me needed a copywriter for their medical group. It literally pays to dress professionally.

On the flip side, since I am not in a corporate setting, I don’t find it necessary to wear a power suit each day. My best tip for confidence is wearing pieces that you are comfortable in. When you are comfortable, you exude confidence.

Therefore, my go to work style is black denim pants, nice boots, and a sweater. I wear clothes that are tailored and fit nicely. For these reasons, I love shopping at LOFT. They provide amazing quality clothes that are easy to wear. I never want to worry if a shirt is too tight, or I am spilling out of a skirt while I am writing for hours on end.

Women Entrepreneurs On Wednesday

#Womenwow (Women on Wednesday) is a movement taking place this December, where ever Wednesday is dedicated to supporting Women Entrepreneurs. Wendy Diamond, who also hosted the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Event at the United Nations, started this campaign in the efforts to bring more awareness and support to female entrepreneurs.

I had the honor and privilege to attend the United Nations event where worldly leaders and speakers gathered to share their perspective. Topics ranged from what is holding women back from success, why it is important for more women to be present in the government, and how a loan of $60 can change a woman’s life. The event streamed live in 114 countries, and in several universities. Making it a day of global awareness of what is truly happen to half of the world’s population.

The United Nations, Women entrepreneurship Day event

From the empowering event, here are the top statistic that were jolting to hear:

” 80% of women’s salary goes to kids while 30% of men’s salary goes back to children. When we invest in women, we are investing in the next generation”- Rodrigo Arenas, a member of the Guatemala government

“98% of women pay back their loans,” Vicki Escarra, Global CEO of Opportunity International

“We need more women in government. Half of the population is not in the conversation” – Atti Riazi

“During slavery it cost the equivalent of $4, 000 per slave, today you can buy a girl for $300. Women don’t even know they own their own bodies” – On sex and human trafficking. The best prevention is to have more women presence online.

United Nations Womenseday

The best advice from leading women:

“Let’s stop telling women there are road blocks, we are not going to make it. We are up against the same issues as men.” Christine Souffrant, Founder of Vendedy on the topic of what holds women back.

“They see the importance of it, and they know they can change it,” Heidi Messer, Co-founder of Collective[i] on what makes a person an innovator.

“Self-awareness, be authentic, never stop learning, workout because you’ll need the energy, don’t tell anyone your passions- make them bullet proof, and find a man who enjoys staying home to raise the kids” Leslie Blodgett, Creator of bareMinerals on how to be successful.

“Being an entrepreneur is like jumping out of a plane and building a parachute on the way down,” Erika Karp, CEO of Cornerstone Capital on discussing the fears of being an entrepreneur.

“Just because you are captivated by the men in your group and what they are saying, doesn’t make your voice less important. When you think it, feel it, go ahead and say it!”- Jen Welter

United Nations Women entrepreneurs

The event and #WomenWow made me want to share my own personal story of being a female entrepreneur. After graduating college into a recession, I worked mediocre jobs to get by. It pained me to take jobs where I feverishly worked for another person’s dreams yet only paid slightly more than minimum wage. I decided to make a change. I wanted to create my own schedule, work in a field I was passionate about while still had time to work on myself emotionally and physically. I began freelance writing for startups, blogs, and young entrepreneurs. I still remember my first paid writing job and thought it was a dream! When I started, I didn’t think I could actually do it, I second guessed my talent and work. But with that first job under my belt,  it empowered me to continue.

I push forward with content writing, product descriptions, and blogging for other companies. Eventually, I began this blog to see what type of platform I could create for myself. I knew having a published voice meant power, having a readership meant power, and I knew as a society we needed more powerful women online sharing real opinions and advice. As a result, I had the opportunity to meet some of the most incredible individuals who inspire me, lift me higher, and spark creative solutions to problems we face as a whole. One of the many influencers who helped me was Heidi Nazarudin from Blogger Babes, who showed me how amazingly rewarding a blogger babes life can be.

I still continue to grow, learn, create, and this blog is the physical result of the never-ending evolution. In honor of #WomenWOW, I am preparing once more a new shift in direction for this blog, sharing empowering articles every Wednesday that will help women around the world to reach their fullest potential, or in the very least have a voice and outlet to turn to.

Let me know in the comments below what empowers you, and how you are supporting Women Entrepreneurs this month!
