But a moving company like will make your move run a lot more smoothly since you don’t have to worry about lugging boxes or heavy items onto the van yourself. If you want to make things really easy, you could even hire packers to pack everything up for you too. If you’re not going down this route, your best bet is to start as early as possible. Spend time packing up belongings as soon as you have a moving date, it’s recommended that you start at the top of the house and work your way down.

Prepare The New Place

With a bit of luck, you will have a crossover period where you have the keys to your new place while you’re still living at the old. This gives you time to clean and in some cases even fully redecorate. You could do things like check all of the lights have bulbs, clean the windows, and hang curtains and shelves. Make sure there are soap, towels and toilet paper in the bathroom and essentials in the kitchen cupboards. This saves you a job once you’re in. If you do this, at least you have the basic functions of the house without having to dig through boxes when you’re busy unpacking.

Have Children and Pets Looked After

When you’re in and out the door and have movers coming and going; the front door is likely to be open all day which isn’t practical when you have children and pets. Plus moving day is stressful already, instead of letting pets and kids get caught up in moving chaos you could have them looked after instead. Once everything is setup, you could bring them to their new home, and in the meantime, you’re free to tackle your huge moving day to-do list.

Have an Emergency Suitcase

Your emergency case should contain things like important documents and paperwork, phone and device chargers, cash, some snacks and other things that you will want on the day at arms reach. It could contain a spare set of clothes and some toiletries so if you haven’t started unpacking by that evening you can get dressed the next day without rummaging through boxes.
