If you have a busy day ahead of you, it’s smart to prepare thoroughly beforehand. This allows the day to run smoothly, while you remain feeling comfortable and completely confident. To slay the day, there are a few things you can do before you leave the house (and afterward too). Let’s take an in-depth look at what they are so you can begin 2018 the right way while stepping closer towards your goals!
Eat A Nutritious Breakfast
To start, eating a nutritious breakfast is key. Some people like to eat later on in the day, and that’s absolutely fine. However, if you know that your schedule is packed, having a well-balanced meal before leaving the house is vital. The saying ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’ is true. It keeps your blood sugar stable, your concentration on point, and making you feel your best! Plus, it typically helps you avoid unhealthy snacking and binging later on.
Breakfasts that will fill you up substantially and provide you a good amount of energy includes protein oats, overnight oats, avocado on toast, and a vegetable omelet using tofu! However, there are plenty of other breakfasts depending on your tastes and preferences. Make the meal balanced and healthy to ensure it fills you up and provides you with slow-burning energy.
An excellent idea to add to this tips is to prepare a few quick snacks for the day as well. A handful of nuts and a banana are great options for when you’re short on time but need a boost of energy.
Get A Little Exercise
You might wonder why exercise is on the list, as you already have a busy day. Won’t it wear you out more?! Actually, no. Research suggests that a mere 7 minutes of exercise in the morning (try sprinting, or a circuit workout?) can fill you with endorphins, making you happier, and more productive for the day ahead. If you have ever exercised in the morning before, you’ve probably noticed how it eradicated your stress, put you in a great mood, and helped with efficiency. You don’t have to commit to a huge workout. Just get your blood pumping for a short amount of time and you should see the benefits!
Utilize Coffee The Right Way
What do most people rely on when they have a busy day ahead? Coffee. However, coffee is often abused, and this is when the negative effects are felt the most. You definitely don’t want to end up with a racing heart and the jitters on a day where you already have so much to deal with.
People by nature are usually most productive in the morning when they first wake up. This means that rather than have a coffee, you should drink a pint of water as quickly as possible, to rehydrate and wake up the body. If you’re used to having a hot drink, try a green tea. You should be fine for at least an hour while you get the first part of your day done. Only turn to coffee when you really need it, ideally later on in the morning. The mistake people make is drinking cup after cup of coffee, without even really allowing the first cup of coffee to work! Once you’ve had one cup of coffee, it may take a while for all of that goodness to course through your veins. Be patient! If you must have another drink, have another green tea. Matcha tea is thought to be even better, so try that if you’d like a stronger energy boost, without the jitters that coffee can give. Coffee is great when used in moderation, try not to become dependent on it. Use it sensibly, and stick to a safe amount!
Choose Your Outfit Carefully
You’re going to be wearing your outfit all day, so make sure you choose it carefully. The clothes you wear will depend largely on what you’re doing; if you’re running errands, you can afford to wear whatever you want, the comfier the better. If you’re at work, then you’ll likely have to dress up a little more. If you typically don’t wear heels, avoiding high heels goes without saying – hobbling to meetings really doesn’t look good. Make sure you’re not wearing anything too tight, and that your clothes are breathable. If you are traveling or standing for long stretches at a time, you can look into accessories to keep you super comfortable, such as compression socks for women that look smart too. I wear compression socks and tights, they not only help your legs feel more comfortable but keep them looking younger as well.
Don’t forget to keep a few things in your bag that can help you through the day. A mini deodorant spray, gum, dry shampoo, and a facial mist to refresh your face can all be lifesavers when your day is extra long.
Apply Flawless, Stress-Proof Makeup
Assuming you like to wear makeup, you’re going to need to ensure a stress-proof face for your busy day. You don’t want to wear too much, as it might melt and crack under the pressure! Start by perfecting your base. That’s what all great makeup looks start with. That means cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and applying any serums to make sure your skin is ready. Using a great primer will help to keep your makeup on your face and smooth out any further imperfections that you’d like to hide.
Once you’ve applied your primer, you can apply your foundation, but some ladies like to do their eye makeup first. Fill in your brows if needed or just use a clear brow gel, and use an eyeshadow primer before applying your chosen colors. Don’t forget to learn a little about transition shades and proper blending to ensure a smooth look that isn’t OTT. Curling your lashes before applying mascara can eliminate the need for false lashes.
Once you’ve applied your eye makeup, use a sponge or a brush for your foundation. A damp sponge will give a more work-appropriate daytime look in most cases, but it can depend on the type of foundation you’re using. Go with the tool you prefer – try not to use your fingers, as this can simply smudge the product all over your face rather than spread it evenly. Apply concealer in a triangle shape under your eye to brighten, and then apply powder to set and make sure that nothing moves. You can then add blusher, highlighter, and any contouring you would like to finish off your look. A lip gloss or light lipstick will keep your lips moist and stop them from cracking throughout the day like matte lipsticks do. This can sound like a lot to put on, but if you use the right type of products and the right shades, you should find that you have a flawless looking face that isn’t ‘too much’. To further diffuse any imperfections or powdery-ness, you can use a spray like Mac Fix+, which should also hold your makeup on your face for longer.
Don’t forget, try to be mindful of touching your face. Not only will you move your makeup, you will transfer bacteria to your face. Don’t forget to purchase blotting papers and keep them in your bag if you find you get an oily t-zone partway through the day!
Creating Hair That Will Last
When you have lots to do, it’s unlikely you’re going to want to have your hair all in your face. There are lots of alternative styles you can choose; half up half down, a messy bun, a high ponytail – all good options! Of course, if you have skills, such as french plaiting, you can easily incorporate these to create more interesting hairstyles that look fantastic and won’t get in your way. These hairstyles usually look best when you use a volumizing spray at the roots (you can use a good dry shampoo for this as well), and add as much texture to your hair as possible before styling. You could use a sea salt spray or another type of texturizing spray to give your hair a nice finish, and backcombing at the roots ensures your volume stays in place all day. It makes such a difference, even when you’re just going for a simple messy ponytail.
When adding hairspray, be careful. You still want your hair to move, and you definitely don’t want it to look crunchy or crispy!
Hopefully, this post has given you some valuable tips on how to survive a busy day with your comfort and confidence intact. It isn’t all about looks, of course. You can wear what you like and do your makeup how you like.
