My birthday is quickly approaching, and as every year comes to a close, I like to reflect on what happened. Today I am sharing my favorite memories, some of the hardships, personal goals I accomplished, and look at what I’d like to do for the year to come.
2014 I had set out with the goal of traveling more. Well with over 30 flights under my belt from this year along, I can say I accomplished that task with flying colors. The greatest adventure was traveling abroad with a friend and exploring 6 countries, 7 cities in one month exactly. I finally went to a Greek Island, something I’ve been talking about for years. I feel in love with the Spanish town Evissa (Ibiza), and the way of life in Barcelona. I spoke french to locals in Paris and ate a Danish in Denmark. I even listed to Budapest by George Ezra in Budapest. I laughed harder than I had in years with our late night girl chats, which typically ended in closing down local restaurants. I met new friends along the way that treated us like family. It was magical. Spectacular.
Next, I had a personal goal of being on set of television shows. Not because I wanted to be an actress, but merely because I am curious how it all worked. I ended up being hired as an extra on shows such as Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Younger, Nurse Jackie, Law and Order SVU, and Power to name a few. I watched Tina Fey and Jon Ham duke it out in their natural habitat. I saw Hillary Duff my childhood bff I always wish I had. And was in the final shot of Nurse Jackie doing chaturanga at the break of dawn in Time Square. Did I mention it was also in the middle of winter?
Accomplishing a childhood dream, I attended New York Fashion Week for the first time! I have been scribbling in my notes outfit designs since middle school. Fashion has been a large part of me, and will always be a part of me. So to finally attend the renowned NYFW, I had to pinch myself while at the events. I will always remember that feeling of seeing my first runway show in the heart of the city. There is nothing like it in the world.
Later in the year, I quickly jumped at the opportunity to attend the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Event hosted at the United Nations. My heart leaped out of my chest when I was accepted for the press pass. An event full of inspirational leaders to support women and make a difference in this world is right up my alley. Sitting at one of the elongated circled desks in the United Nations assembly room with a microphone in front of me, it felt right. This is where I belong. I cannot wait for the next time.
A few other personal accomplishments from the year was being published (twice) on Indie Chicks. Worked with so many incredible brands. I’ve helped and mentored numerous strangers that are now friends. I was given the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my mom this year. No words can describe how much I love, honor, respect that women. I am forever grateful to have had this year with her.
I am sharing these events with you today not to brag or boast, but to show that whatever you set your mind on, you will achieve! All these events I had previously listed out for myself as personal goals. I didn’t tell a single soul about them until they were achieved. There is so much power in what you believe in and where you place your energy. Same is true in thinking negative self-doubting thoughts. If I had believe, “oh there is no way I can travel that much in one year”. Guess what would have happened? I wouldn’t have seen 8 countries. If you think small, you will live small, but if you think big you will live an abundant life.
Whatever your biggest dream is, you can do it! I believe in you, and know you have all the tools inside to make it happen. Let go of the excuses, let go of feeling inadequate or any fears. Life is too short to worry about messing up or failing. In the end, you will never regret trying. Most likely, you will even surprise yourself how well you did. Sending you love for the new year as you conquer your dreams. Feel free to share what amazing events you were able to accomplish in the comments below. It inspires and brings hope to us all!
