14 New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public

Next week is the beginning of New York Fashion Week. While the shows are primarily for those who work within the industry (buyers and press), there are ways to celebrate the excitement by attending New York Fashion Week events open to the public. These events often include entertainment, drinks, prizes, and a slew of good memories to share with friends before the end of summer. Honestly, sometimes these are way more fun to attend.

Here are a list of New York Fashion Week events open to the public.

1) MOXY Time Square’s Fashion Fun House

The Moxy Hotel is hosting an interactive, carnival themed fun house with prizes raffled off. Games include stiletto ring toss and dueling slides, allowing friends to race in designer burlap sacks. Prizes that are up for grabs include a free stay at the hotel, and free drinks at the Moxy bar! Sweet deal. Not to mention this is prime Instagram real estate that will make all your friends envy when photographed.

The Fashion Fun House is completely FREE and open to the public. Located 485 Seventh Avenue (at 36th street).

2) WWD X SAMSUNG 837 Presents Style Dimension  

New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public

Women’s Wear Daily paired up with Samsung to host a series of panels as it relates to the fashion and beauty industries. The duo design team of Badgley Mischka will open up the panels discussing their 30 years of experience in leaving their mark in the fashion world. MAC cosmetics will also host a beauty master class. For all panels RSVP at Samsung. The events are FREE, but runs on a first come first serve basis.

3) 29 Rooms By Refinery 29
29 Rooms By Refinery 29 NYFW, New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public

An interactive fun house that consists of 29 vividly decorated rooms; this has easily become one of the most highly anticipated New York Fashion Week events open to the public. This year the theme is breaking your limits and thinking abundantly. Refinery29 describes the exhibit as follows:

“We invite you into a realm of abundant thinking, built for creating what’s possible. Upon entry, we challenge guests to ditch self-limiting beliefs, and open themselves up to new ideas and unforeseen experiences.
At every turn, there’s an opportunity to grow, learn, and stretch our minds. The effect is transformational, because when we let our imaginations run free, it completely shifts how we see ourselves and the world around us.”

What an awesome way to start the new season! Spend three hours roaming through the 29 rooms and experience a new way of thinking for yourself.

4) INTO App NYFW Happy Hour

INTO App NYFW Happy Hour. New York Fashion Week events open to the public

Need a strong Marg with all that fashion? Arlo Hotel is inviting everyone to a special happy hour as the INTO App officially launches (INTO is the first exclusive influencer community – connecting local businesses with agency-signed influencers). Join the super swanky hotel each day from September 6th to the 9th for their daily New York Fashion Week Happy hour. Mix and mingle with fashion influencers in the heart of Soho. 5) The VFILES Show 

This year, the VFILES is taking over Barclay Stadium to showcase their runway show for the public. There will be new designers hitting the stage to share their talents as well as unbelievable music and art to enjoy. VFILES Yellow label is also launching and debuting on stage. Tickets are selling out quickly, but you can check here for any additional availability.

6) WAYE Talks: The Future of Fashion & Sustainability

WAYE Talks: The Future of Fashion & Sustainability; New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public

WAYE founder, model, and United Nations speaker Sinead Bovell will be speaking on how we can move the fashion industry to a more sustainable and greener business. The panel will include Victoria Secret model and Project Tsehigh founder Grace Mahary, leading New York sustainability consultant Christina Wong, and Celsius founders Theresa and Corinna Williams. ON CANAL has decided to take 20 vacant commerce storefronts and turn them into spaces for artists, startups, and innovated minds to launch their new designs. During New York Fashion Week, ON CANAL is showcasing designers such as Telfar, Luar, Kim Shui, Vaquera, Miaou, Landlord, Gauntlett Cheng, KidSuper, Sektor and Joe Garvey.

Completely free and open to the public to view, the showrooms stretch between West Broadway and Broadway on Canal Street. You can find more info here.

8) Nicholas K Soho Pop Up Store

Nicholas K opened New York Fashion Week for the last few season. Their show indicated, for most buyers and press, the official start of NYFW. However with some bad luck and unfortunate events the past two seasons ( one blizzard and one fire), this year, instead of doing a runway show or presentation, they have opened a pop-up shop in the heart of Soho. To them, it is a way to connect with their consumer and showcase their Eco-conscious clothing line. You can read all the details, including location, dates and times here.

9) Fashion Week Kick Off At Henri Bendel

New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public

Henri Bendel is setting the tone of the week with sips and treats at their flagship store on Fifth Avenue. Artist Steven Wilson will be there to showcase the new Instagram Wall for the store. If you spend $250, you’ll get a free #bendelgirl sweatshirt personalized by Unemployed Denim. The deal is only available for the night. The event is FREE and open to the public, no need to RSVP.

10) The Saks IT List Townhouse with American Express and Harper’s BAZAAR

A full townhouse in Washington Square Park will be packed with Saks Fifth Avenues hottest items for fall. You can see what’s trending and what to wear for the new season. Those with American Express will have the option to shop the looks. The event is FREE and open to the public but you must register for entry here.

11) Wear Your Values Panels & Pop-Up

Remake and the Human Rights Foundation are hosting a panel at Athleta with industry experts to discuss the intersection of fashion, human rights and technology. The event will also include a pop-up by sustainable designers featuring Article 22Indigo HandloomDear LeaderArt of Hope, and Fashion for Freedom which will remain open until Saturday afternoon. Come meet with leaders from models, activists, designers, technologists to brand founders who are all working to make fashion a force for good.

The panels include the power of informed consumption, the power of fashion as a tool for sustainable change, and promoting women’s rights in fashion to name a few.

While the event is FREE, a suggested donation of $20 is greatly appreciated. You can reserve your seat here.

12) Hello, NYC! Plus-Size Party with The Huntswoman

New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public

Join a bunch of fabulous and beautiful women for a night of fun and networking at plus BKLYN, on September 7th. There will be doughnuts and champagne!  Brianne of The Huntswoman will be co-hosting the event. The event is free, but be sure to register as it is sure to fill up.

13) The RealReal NYFW Designers We Love: The Row

New York Fashion Week Events Open to the Public, The RealReal

The RealReal has opened a new store in Soho and would love for you to come out to celebrate! Each day during NYFW, they are dedicating to a designer they love. On Septemeber 12th, that specific brand is The Row. You can register here before they sell out!

14) Banana Republic x Foster Sisters x Bumble Hive Launch 

New York Fashion Week Events Open To The Public
