I wanted to take a minute to share my absolute condolence to those impacted by the natural disasters in both Mexico City and Puerto Rico. I have met the most incredible people and have loved ones from both locations. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering. Our world needs our help.
Mexico City has been hit twice now with earthquakes. The last being a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday that killed 200 people and counting. Many do not know how to contribute to disaster relief in Mexico because it is outside of the US, but there are in fact many ways we can provide aid to our neighboring country. Diana from Flight of Spice has outlined numerous links and ways we can contribute. I highly recommend checking out her page of useful tips, but for those who want to contribute to Mexico’s Red Cross in USD, check out this Go Fund Me page.
Puerto Rico has just announced the entire country is without power as hurricane Maria hit the power grid the hardest. I cannot even imagine how devastating that is for the country security, health-wise, and work. Puerto Rico has a long way to go to restore their beautiful country to what it was prior to Hurricane Maria. They too need our help right now.
If you are in South Florida, Miami is taking donations of nonperishable foods and diapers. Please feel free to refer to the Miami Herald to see locations and times for drop-offs. Unicef is taking donations to help rebuild the Caribbean countries affected by both Irma and Maria. They are already on the grounds helping with rebuilding and supplying necessary water, shelter, and food. The Red Cross is still supplying Irma victims, I am watching closely to see how they will help Maria Hurrican Relief as well. Puerto Rico isn’t out of the clear yet as they are expecting flooding and torrential rain. If you can find it in your hearts to help, please do.
