Red Carpet Worthy Dresses

As I mentioned in a post, last month I attended the Oscar’s Vanity Fair Social Club and a special screening of the Oscars. Needless to say, it was an occasion to dress up! What I realized later is the look I scored would be perfect for any formal dinners or black tie weddings you may have. So today, I thought I would share the process of picking a red carpet worthy look so you too can dress like a movie star during any formal events this Spring!

First and foremost, the moment I found out we were attending the screening my friend Lizza, from Fabulizza, and I headed straight to Nordstroms to begin picking out formal wear. Nordstroms has always been my number one go to for any last minute dress, shoes, jewelry, and handbag emergencies. I always can count on them to save the day. This event was no different. We managed to find a whole look and walked the red carpet within 24 hours. In fact, the first dresses Lizza and I tried on turned out to be the perfect fit for the evening!

I went with this Ralph Lauren dress in a rich fuschia. I knew I wanted a long maxi dress that would be comfortable to sit down in as well as easy to walk in. I also wanted long sleeves to keep me warm through the cool LA evening. The best part about a maxi dress like this one is it’s not over the top nor too casual, perfect for those events where you are unsure about the dress code. And since there wasn’t too much fussiness, it allowed me to have fun with the jewelry.

Speaking of which, I went with a set of Nadri earrings and bracelet (on sale here). It was the perfect balance of elegance and drama. The gems glistened in the sunlight and match the brooch of my dress. A necklace would have been a little too much for this look since the neckline is high. If you have a plunging neckline or V cut, I would definitely suggest this Nadri necklace here.

I also snagged a pair of Spanx tights because nothing ruins a look faster than visible panty lines in a formal gown!

This was the first time I’ve ever worn Spanx and I have to say they are waaaayyy better than I’ve ever expected. I’ve tried the knock-offs, and those just never worked well. If you need a little smoothing out, I definitely recommend Spanx. It truly makes the look complete for only $28. The specific ones I wore are right here.

I’ve also spotted a few other dresses that are sleeveless for the warmer months that would work perfectly for black tie dinners or weddings. Hope this helps in planning for the big events you have coming up! Let me know in the comments below what you think about this look and what special occasions you are dressing up for!
