Goodbye Summer, Until Next Year

Most people don’t know this but I started Rock Paper Glam as a way to talk about not only fashion but music. If you know me, you know my adorations and unforgiving affair with music. It is as part of me as my own hands feverishly typing away this last summer article.

I want to test something out. It could be fun or a fail, but I thought I would pick one of my favorite songs of the moment to accompany my articles. It will be either from Youtube or Spotify, and you can play it in the background while reading this piece. THIS IS NOT SPONSORED, this is just something I thought would be fun. The summer song that I felt fitting to this piece is King of Summer by Ayokay Featuring Quinn XCII…. Enjoy and let me know if you like this idea in the comments below!

Summer is winding down. Most people are sad about the idea of sunny days and long nights vanishing to cooler weather. But I am eager. I cannot wait. This summer has been difficult, to say the least. To quickly sum up what my summer had been like, it was 1 car crash (not our fault), 1 concussed mother, a move and 3 months of being annoyingly sick. At the end, I just threw my hands in the air and said, “I give up!” Summer ’16 was just not in my favor. So what. There is always more summers, more season, more chances to create fun memories.

These photos are of me embracing the shorter nights to come and looking forward to the change of weather. Soaking up the last bits of Summer sun but excitedly waiting to see what September and my favorite season, Fall, will bring.

Give ‘Em The Cold Shoulder

Still trending is the off the shoulder look. Who else has been loving this trend?! It has been my favorite go-to for a simple yet beautiful outfit. This time around, I have switched the ruffles for slits and ruching. The silhouette is a sleek, city-chic style. I found it easy to pair with black slacks and flats for a day of walking around the city. I personally love the bell sleeves, something I haven’t seen on many other off the shoulder tops.

I also appreciate the rust color, as it will make this piece easy to transition into the cooler weather. I’d pair it with black faux leather leggings and boots for the perfect fall look. The length is just perfect to be a summer or fall top.

I took this look up and down Fifth Avenue, including a short coffee break at the Grand Salon in the Baccarat Hotel. If you ever get a chance to visit New York, take yourself to this gorgeous place for a light bite and coffee. It is a stunning environment tucked away in the midst of the busy city.

My off the shoulder moment

This is one of my favorite trends for spring! Off the shoulder blouses doused in a ton of ruffles and preferably in blue. There is something so fun and playful about this look. In fact, I couldn’t stop twirling in my oversize blouse. Pairing the look with my new favorite cat-eyed sunglasses made the look that much better. I am starting realize that eyewear isn’t made to be taken seriously. I am really getting into wearing something funky! The funkier the better, right? Fashion is meant to be fun after all!

I like styling this look with a simple pair of black denim pants and no fuss tan sandals. The emphasis here are the ruffles in all their glory. This is a perfect outfit for while grabbing coffee or brunch with friends.

What do you think of this look? Would it be something you’d try for Spring?

ClutchGiGi New York. I love that you can customize their clutches with initials, a similar style in faux leather is available here. SunglassesBalenciaga, similar and more affordable style here.

P.S. I totally changed from my mule heeled sandals to my favorite Pumas half way through the day, and instantly became happier! Does that ever happen to you? Does putting on your favorite shoes change your mood?

Is Rent the Runway Unlimited Worth It?

A few months ago, I took the plunge. I signed up for Rent the Runway Unlimited. I was in the midst of a fashion crisis, where I needed to attend a LOT of events and didn’t have enough looks for each one. I knew I needed high-end products but without the designer budget. This is where Rent the Runway unlimited stepped in as the best option. Rent the Runway unlimited is a monthly subscription for $139 + tax you are able to borrow three at a time.

This is what I experienced:

3 Transitional Coats You Need for Spring

Spring is one of those tricky seasons where it is still rather cool out especially in the evenings, but it is just too darn exciting to see the peek of warmer weather during the day. While a coat is still very much needed, it doesn’t need to be a heavy wool peacoat. Try one of these three light-weight jackets that will instantly update your look for Spring.

The fun part of these three styles is that it will take your staples and turn them into three very distinct looks. To demonstrate, I wore the same base outfit (V-neck top, Banana Republic black pants 40% off with code SPRINGFUN, Vince Camuto black heels and Loft aviators) with each jacket style. Watch as the look complete changes with each coat!

Faux Leather Jacket

Such a classic Spring jacket that keeps your style edgy and fierce. This look is perfect for concerts, casual brunches with friends or date night. There are plenty of faux leather jackets that look  better than real leather. Mine is from Blackswan Clothing, but here are a few of my favorites:

Trench Coat

Another absolute classic is the tan trench coat. While very structured lapels look too boxy on my body frame, I opted for a softer silhouette. I love that the drawstring cinches the waist and the sleeves have elastic cuffs adding a bit more of a feminine touch. Mine is from Zara. Here are more amazing trench coat options:

Duster

This coat style has been trending every since Kim Kardashian stepped out in one last year. I think it is a beautiful trend that can really take a simple outfit and turn it into a glamorous look. I especially love the olive green color of this duster, a color we will see a lot of this upcoming fall and winter. Mind is from W by Worth. Here are a few more of my favorite duster jackets that will make your Spring look complete:
