The High Line & Firmoo Sunnies!

Exploring every nook and cranny of New York  is one of my favorite parts of living in this magical city. For the past 6 1/2 years, I’ve been venturing to the High Line. Practically ever since this “park in the sky” was built, it has been my oasis. I remember in the warm summer months right as dusk fell, there used to be a cabaret show from one of the ladies who dwelled in the apartments overlooking the High Line. She would sing classic broadway songs to about twenty of us marveling in disbelief that we happened upon a free show.

From sunsets to sunbathing, the High Line has it all. Even in the cooler weather, it is nice to be above the honking taxis and racing über drivers. But if there is one thing I’ve learned the hard way it is, never venture the High Line without a great pair of sunglasses!

Today I am wearing my new pair of sunglasses from Firmoo, an online optical store housing a plethora of affordable glasses and sunglasses. I chose the #CM8059 in tortoise-shell with priority shipping. I received them quickly in the mail with a beautiful hardcover sunglass case, a soft pouch, and a pink lens cloth. They even sent a small tool to tighten the screws in the lenses if they become loose. They really thought of everything!

I chose this particular style because I love how big they are. I am also loving the colored mirrored lens trend happening right now and wanted in on the fun. They are very comfortable, not pinching anything nor are they heavy. It feels weightless on my face. The double bridge bar makes these sunglasses stand out from the rest, which I really enjoy. The best part, they are only $19! Isn’t that crazy?

I thoroughly enjoy the customer service as well as my new sunglasses from Firmoo. Now it is your turn to try these on for size!

Pretty Pleats!

Oh Tory Burch, you did it again. You made a skirt I’ll actually wear. My black skinny jeans simply didn’t have a chance against these pleats. Of course I have to wear stockings because the amount of times I run into inanimate objects is slightly terrifying. But back to the skirt, pretty pleats!

I am a sucker for pleats, mainly for the way they move easily when I walk. I don’t feel constricted, nor is it too fussy. It is just right. The pattern in this particular skirt brings enough character that I really didn’t need to add much else! I just threw on my favorite navy blue top (similar for $7 here) from LOFT. They have the best closet staples if you are in a crunch!  My black stacked booties were the perfect touch, and ta-da, look completed!

Searching for a similar skirt, check out these two Tory Burch pleated skirts on sale here and here. If you want a similar pattern check here!

The Mock Turtleneck & Bucket Bag

It finally snowed! I was starting to think it wouldn’t happen this year, but Sunday’s flurries ended up blanketing the town with a pretty white coating.

(Don’t worry I had a coat! This one is from Coach)

Today I wanted to share my favorite casual look for the season, featuring none other than the mock turtle neck. The turtle neck is having quite a moment right now in fashion. Have you noticed it popping up everywhere? I am seeing it from sweaters to sleeveless tops, and sweater dresses. If you aren’t willing to fully commit to the high neckline, the mock turtleneck is a great solution.

Cutting a little lower that a full turtleneck, it gives the appearance of wearing one without feeling too constricted. The one I am wearing is from Zara, similar look here. Being a bit looser, it is super comfy and warm. I the love slits in the sides to make it easier to move while adding a different dimension.

The second piece I am obsessed with is my new bucket bag by Deux Lux. Originally retailing for over $100, I snagged it for less than $20 at Century 21’s massive sale going on right now. It is faux leather, which I constantly checked before buying because it is super soft! The fabric feels like butter, I kid you not. It is a fairly decent size for a bucket bag, which only means I can pack more than I ever need.

My boots are from 14th & Union similar here. They are unbelievably comfortable. I can walk around in them with such easy, even in the snow. I love that they give me added height for my simple and casual look.

What is your go-to look this season? Let me know if the comments below!

Customized Holiday Skirt By eShakti

I love this time of year where everyone dresses up for holiday parties and events. Seeing metallics weaved through dresses and sweaters are my favorite. This season, I am dressing up with the help of eShakti. eShakti is an amazing online shop doing incredible things in this world. Not only do they support real women by providing sizes 0 to 36W, but they strive to leave a small production footprint by producing only what’s ordered. Meaning everything purchase is truly made for you! This made my heart skip a beat.

Flipping through eShakti online catalog, I fell in love with three perfect holiday options. The Grace Dress – appropriate and fun for any festive party, the Shawl Collared Plaid Shirt Dress – retro and spunky, and then I found the Cotton Poplin Skirt. Immediately, I knew that was the one for me.

The full A-line skirt cinches at the waist for a classic touch. During the customizing process, I ordered the skirt below the knee and gave them my exact height to make it perfect. I opted to keep the pockets, but you can remove them for free. When I received my skirt, it fit like a glove. I was so happy and excited.

To create the ideal holiday outfit, I paired the skirt with a navy blue sleeveless turtleneck from LOFT. Yes, I am supporting the return of the turtleneck after nearly a decade of banning it from my wardrobe. I threw on a faux fur peacoat from Buffalo (similar here and here) and black pointed heels from Vince Camuto. Even still, the real focal point of the look was my navy blue striped skirt from eShakti. I received bountiful compliments and felt like a doll. The best news is this skirt is easy to transition into warmer weather, making it a piece I can wear year round.

Dress For Success Campaign

As a female entrepreneur, I know first-hand the power of looking your best. Most people assume I wear sweats to work each day as a writer. While I could, I choose not to for many reasons. One, I feel better, more confident, and invincible when I am dressed nicely. My writing is dramatically stronger as a result.

Secondly, I tend to work outside of my home. I never know who I will run into, and who needs a writer. Just this past week, I went to a function and the couple sitting next to me needed a copywriter for their medical group. It literally pays to dress professionally.

On the flip side, since I am not in a corporate setting, I don’t find it necessary to wear a power suit each day. My best tip for confidence is wearing pieces that you are comfortable in. When you are comfortable, you exude confidence.

Therefore, my go to work style is black denim pants, nice boots, and a sweater. I wear clothes that are tailored and fit nicely. For these reasons, I love shopping at LOFT. They provide amazing quality clothes that are easy to wear. I never want to worry if a shirt is too tight, or I am spilling out of a skirt while I am writing for hours on end.

That one time in Paris

Paris. I mean what can I say, it is every girl’s dream to be whisked away to the most romantic city. The food, the culture, the atmosphere, the language; everything about Paris is well, magnificent.

This past visit was nothing short of exceptional. A good friend and I stayed in the ultra posh neighborhood of Le Marais. If you are visiting and want a truly Parisian experience, I highly recommend staying in this neighborhood. It was so much fun to get lost in the neighborhood coming home at night. Walking down the narrow streets in the rain passing by cafe after cafe, and boutique shop after boutique shop. On any given Tuesday, we watched as the locals sit unbothered at 11pm, having a drink while catching up with a friend. It filled my heart.

One of the biggest decisions we made on the trip was to do the ultimate dream… A photoshoot in front of the Eiffel tower. Days leading up to the shoot, we looked all over Paris for outfits and jewelry. We found the prettiest dresses in a cute Parisian shop. At one moment while trying on looks, my friends whispers to me through the velvet curtain “Ellese, we are in Paris trying on dresses in a vintage shop”, neither one of us could stop giggle with pure excitement that this is actually happening.

On the day of the shoot, we woke up very early to rain. That didn’t stop us. After all isn’t it even more romantic to see Paris in the rain? we put on our outfits, did our hair and makeup, and then added an extra layer of clothing to protect us from the cold, wet weather outside. we scurried to the nearby train and road with all the locals heading to work. I can only imagine what they were thinking when they saw these two American girls all decked out on this commuter train. But it didn’t matter. The only thing that matter was, we were actually going to achieve this beautiful dream of ours.

We got off at a stop that is a little further away than the Eiffel tower. A day in advance, we stocked out where we could get a clear photo of the Eiffel Tower in the background. Once there, we began to setup and stripped down to our dresses to start the photoshoot. Since it was raining, there were only a few tourist. Our biggest audience were the national guards who watched the area. They did stare quiet heavily, but never bothered us. In fact, we felt rather safe having them around while our belongings sat to the side.

My friend snapped these photos while it poured, juggling an umbrella in one hand and her professional camera in the other. About 15 minutes later, it was her turn. I bundled up as she changed. She handed over her extremely expensive and heavy camera. “Have you ever used one of these?” she asked. I shook my head and said “Nope” but what better time to learn than now while standing in the rain in Paris.

I juggled my umbrella while snapping photos, just as she had done for me. In the end, we have these incredible photos, and more importantly, these irreplaceable memories of that one time in Paris.

Casual Friday

Happy Friday! We made it to the weekend, and now it is time to take a breather. I don’t know about you, but this has been one busy week. I am looking forward to slipping into super comfy clothes and watching some really bad reality shows on Bravo.

Today I want to share some tips on how to create a fun casual Friday look that is sleek, timeless, but still has that designer edge. If you know me even a little bit, you know that this is my ultimate go to look. I love clean lines, no fuss accessories, and black denim.

So, how do you get the look? Really easy. I took one main designer and matched my outfit around that piece. As you can see I went with my all time favorite Chanel black quilted purse. For an alternative, more affordable quilted purse, click here!

The other recognizable brand I am rocking are my Ray-Ban shades. That’s it though for brands! A great tip is to never mix too many designers and labels in one outfit. It becomes a little overwhelming otherwise.

For colors, I went with monotones to create a sleek, NYC vibe. The V-neck long sleeve shirt and black denim pants I found at Old Navy.  I suggest tucking in your shirt to instantly kick the outfit up a notch without much effort involved.

Of course, the shoes are from dollhouse, but you can get an even more killer pair here by Jeffrey Campbell. I pulled my hair pack into a loose ponytail to match the simplicity and clean lines of the look.

A night with Lulu*s

During NYFW, I attended  Lulu*s Style Studio, and then immediately proceeded to fall love with the brand all over again. The event easily became my number one highlight during the week-long celebration of fashion. Lulu*s went above and beyond decorating three floors full of beauty goodies, drinks, and of course loads of clothes to browse through.

A major plus was how incredibly friendly all the attendees and staff were. More amazing was how each girl looked absolutely stunning despite the torrential downpour happening outside. Everywhere I turned, I was greeted by big time bloggers and YouTubers, who were mingling and enjoying the night as well. My kind of heaven.

On the top floor, I had a chance to browse and snag a couple pieces from Lulu*s clothing line. One piece in particular that I took home was this gorgeous leather jacket. I literally ended up wearing this piece to every event thereafter (stay tuned for a featured post). It is truly the perfect fall jacket.

Additionally, there were a plethora of Lulu*s favorite beauty brands at the event. Shockingly the majority of the beauty products were made san parabens, and of high-quality natural ingredients! Mind Blown.

To me, the night was perfection. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off my very first NYFW!
